Salsa is
typically a partner dance. We work in pairs and rotate
partners with particular attention to lead and follow. Not only
is the class itself fun, but you get to learn a new skill which
you can put to use in the Salsa clubs around Sydney
and at AusLatin's socials at Pennant Hills.
You will be taught the fundamentals of the basic steps, rhythm and
timing, the rudiments of leading and following and a few simple
turn patterns to get you started. You should be able at the end
of this course to begin to enjoy Salsa socially, but as your repertoire
will be relatively small, we’d suggest continuing on to Salsa
Level 2.
Mambo Shines
This class is most suitable for ladies without partners or guys
wanting to improve their agility, timing and speed or to develop
a repertoire of shines. It's a dance class using Salsa fundamentals,
movements and music. It's also a fun way to get
some exercise without resorting to more traditional repetitive forms
of exercise
We teach you the rudiments of Salsa/Mambo basic steps, rhythm and
timing and basic elements of body movement and expression that can
combine to make simple ‘Mambo Shines’. The only aspect
of a salsa dance class not included is of course lead and follow,
which can be accomplished very efficiently later in private lessons
if necessary.
As there is no lead & follow to worry about, you will do a lot
more steps and accomplish a fair bit more than you can imagine within
the term
Mambo Shines is a great option if you can’t be bothered waiting
for a partner, to start having fun with Salsa. We dance a lot more
than in the salsa class and it's a nice fresh alternative to include
in your weekly exercise routine.
The fundamentals are precisely transferable to traditional Salsa
dance with partners, so students can easily transfer over to Salsa
classes afterward. It’s fun, interesting and you can take
it as easy or as energetically as you please.
Beats sitting on the couch waiting for a partner!

(Hornsby, Pennant Hills & Castle Hill)
This is a class for absolute beginners to Salsa dancing.
You will be taught the fundamentals of the basic steps, rhythm and
timing, the rudiments of leading and following and a few simple turn
patterns to get you started. In this class we work to a set
syllabus, which is specifically designed to equip you adequately
for the next level. You should be able at the end of this
course to begin to enjoy Salsa socially. |

(Hornsby, Pennant Hills & Castle Hill )
This syllabus is too long for one course, so it will take at least
2 courses to cover both the 2a & 2b syllabus. Some students even
repeat a third term just to ensure they feel confident before moving
on to Salsa 3.
This levels progresses from Salsa 1, introducing more of the fundamental
patterns and how to combine them effectively to improvise your social
Salsa dancing. In this class we work to a set syllabus,
which is specifically designed to equip you adequately for the next
level. By the end of this course you are well on your way
to being a part of Sydney's Salsa dancing community! |

(
Pennant Hills only)
There is no set syllabus for Salsa level3.
As most of the fundamentals will
be covered in Salsa 1 and 2, this class allows for variations and
more complicated turn patterns to add to your repertoire. Besides
the steps we give you we also teach you how to make your own variations
and combinations. Each term we will deliver a series of combinations
which can be used individually or as a sequence or even used in alternative
sequences and you will be shown how to do so.
In addition to repertoire, in this class we will also introduce
you to Salsa On1. After a few classes you should be able to dance
quite proficiently On1 or On2!
This class is continuous – meaning that we
will have new patterns, combinations and variations for you every
week and you will likely be able to continue in this class for some
time before exhausting our repertoire.

(Hornsby,
Pennant Hills & Castle Hill) This
is a beginners class – no experience is required
and there is no partner work.
Mambo Shines is a dance/exercise class, based on the use of the fundamentals
of New York Style Salsa also known as Mambo.
We teach you the rudiments of Salsa/Mambo basic steps, rhythm and
timing and basic elements of body movement and expression that can
combine to make simple ‘Mambo Shines’
Each element and combination is given a name and the idea is to ‘play
a game’ to Salsa music, moving from one combination to another
as called by the instructor, always resolving into the fundamentals.
At this level the combinations are simple to learn and do and you
may work to your own level of fitness and expertise at all times
All of the material taught in this class is directly transferrable
into salsa of all styles and rhythms. |

(
Pennant Hills Only) Once
you’ve got the hang of Mambo Shines from level 1, or the fundamentals
of Salsa from Salsa 1, or if you’re already familiar with New
york Salsa, you will be equipped to try Mambo Shines 2.
If you have plenty of other dance experience, you may also try this
class and find it quite appropriate.
This class works similarly to Mambo Shines 1, but assumes basic
knowledge and theefore combinations are longer and a little
more challenging. As a result you will find yourself working a bit
harder physically and mentally, but it is intriguing and fun to do
and again, all steps are directly transferrable into Salsa.

Our Salsa syllabus is constructed
with a base of fundamentals that will take 2 levels to complete.
This includes the steps, the lead and follow techniques and basic
body movements which will make your dancing smoother and more stylish.
In our third level which is an open level, we teach a new step every
week, using and building on the fundamentals, until you can actually
create your own very effective steps and become quite proficient.
Your goal should be to able to dance with just
about anyone that you meet anywhere in the world, so we
recommend that you become proficient in at leat the two main linear
style so popular worldwide.
As we have discovered that the transition from On2 to On1 is FAR
simpler than On1 to On2, level 1 and 2 are taught using the Salsa
On2 style as a basis, and in level 3 we teach you how to quickly
and painlesly convert your Salsa On2 into Salsa On 1, making you
a competent 'bi-dancual' salsa dancer.
